While we’re sure he would’ve come up with a much better story to tell, William “Leroy” Courtois passed away on April 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer and other illnesses. And if you knew Leroy, you know he loved a good fight—he met this one with the same strength and stubborn spirit he brought to everything in life.

Born in Springfield, Missouri to Leola and Steven “Lover” Courtois. He was a devoted husband, a proud father of six, and the best “Poppy” anyone could ask for to ten grandchildren. Leroy was the kind of man who showed up when you needed him, no questions asked. A great and loyal friend, he never hesitated to lend a hand or crack a joke, usually both.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy; siblings Rusty, Cliff, Bugs, Jerry, and Deanna; and his children: Melody (husband Will and son Little Will), Kyle (wife Kristen and children Gunner, Kinley, and Mikyla), Chanda, Jacina (life partner Seth and daughters Nariah and Maylee), and Kasey (wife Teri and children Kayden, Riley Jones, Ky, and Harlow).

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Leola and Steven, his brother Clint, and his son Christopher.

Though his stories may no longer fill the room, Leroy’s legacy lives on in every life he touched. He’ll be remembered for his grit, his generosity, and the way he could make anyone feel like family.
