Weldon G. Chandler, 82, died on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 29, 1922 in Strafford, Missouri to Berniece and George Chandler. He graduated from Fair Grove High School in 1940. He served in the army during WWII, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. Weldon was a senior systems and business procedures analyst for the Frisco Railroad, where he worked for 39 years before his retirement. He received a degree in business administration from Drury College in 1967, graduating magna cum laude. He had many hobbies and interests during his lifetime, including traveling, reading, fishing, golfing, gardening, metal detecting, bird watching and bowling. He was a dedicated blood and pheresis donor. Weldon especially loved his family and family activities. He was a member of University Heights Baptist Church for over fifty years. On July 29, 1951, he married Marguerite Conlan at St. Augustine's Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001. He is survived by his sister Retha Palmer, of Springfield, his four children: Karen Chandler, Greg Chandler, Susan Cargill and her husband Dan, all of Springfield; and Nancy Griebel and her husband Andy, of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Galen and Graham Chandler; Jon and Catherine Cargill, of Springfield; and Greer and Meredith Griebel, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Weldon was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 in University Heights Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael K. Olmsted officiating. The visitation will from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut. Burial with military honors by the Veterans' Memorial Team will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. The casket will be closed in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Kitchen, 1630 N. Jefferson, Springfield, MO 65803, or the University Heights Building Fund, 1010 S. National, Springfield, MO 65804.
