Walter Perry Jacobs, 88, of Springfield passed away on February 19, 2012. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 29, 1923 to the late George Perry and Mary Elizabeth Jacobs. In December of 1943, he married Margaret Geneva Lang and shared 64 years of marriage before her passing in June 2008. Walter was in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and served his country proudly. One of the highlights of his recent life was visiting the memorials in Washington, DC on one of the Ozarks Honor Flights.
He worked as a diesel mechanic and later as service manager at Cummins Diesel in Springfield and Kansas City.
Walter was a talented woodworker. He could take a piece of wood and turn it into a clock, a watermelon cart or a Rockin' Rabbit which he then sold at many art and craft sales all over Missouri. If you needed a piece of furniture refinished, he made it look like new.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, brothers George, Dale,William, James, Harold and sisters Lucille and Mary Ann.
He is survived by his children, Patricia (Don) Roney, Gary (Esperanza) Jacobs, Michael Jacobs and Sheryl Davis. He will be missed by grandchildren Nathan, Travis, Janine, Kim, Carrie, Michele, Tony and Sara and his 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Grace Hutchinson, Alberta Buesing, and Dorothy Crim, sisters-in-law Daisy Krell, Barbara Skivers, Susan Wilson and many other loving relatives. He made many friends in Springfield since moving here in 1977 and will be sadly missed.
Walter enjoyed going to the "pool" at St. Johns on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be missed by his many friends there.
In lieu of flowers the family request you make a donation to the Ozarks Honor Flight.
A memorial graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday March 2, 2012 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. A second memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 3, 2012 in Trinity Lutheran Church 1415 S. Holland Springfield, MO 65807.
