Virginia Lee (Fromm) Winget, 93 of Springfield, Missouri, died peacefully in her home on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Cass Center Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa and Point of Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii.
Virginia, daughter of Xaiver "Jack" Fromm and Anna (Goldsberry) Fromm was born September 16, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She lived in many different cities in Iowa and Illinois as her father was director of numerous Drum and Bugle Corps. Her favorite was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she was the Color Guard Sergeant for the VFW’s Musketeers.
She lived most of her life in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked for Bankers Life Insurance Company (where she met her husband, Gerald), Equitable Life, Des Moines Independent School District and Drake University.
She enjoyed doing crafts and ceramics where she worked part time at a ceramic shop. You could always catch her watching the Hallmark Channel, listening to Old Time Radio on Sirius XM or on her iPad reading a romance novel.
Virginia has a large collection of Hawaiian Sea Turtles and was able to visit Hawaii on her 70th, 80th and 92nd birthdays. She loved the ocean! When living in Iowa she enjoyed visiting and spending time with her children in Las Vegas and Branson. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri.
Virginia is survived by her son, Ricky Winget and husband, Clarence Ehler of Las Vegas, Nevada; her daughter, Sherry (Winget) Jones and husband, Scott Jones of Springfield, Missouri; grandson, Blake Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and sisters, Betty Crise and Susie Kay Cox of Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Blaine Winget, married for 66 years, her parents, and sisters, Jackie Helm and Mary Jane Addy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made in Virginia's honor to Hospice Compassus in Springfield, Missouri.
