Early Christmas morning, Virginia Marie (Ginger) Stone died at Primrose Place Nursing Home, where she had lived for the past four months.
Virginia was born March 7, 1917 to Thomas and Bessie (Brumley) Dinkins in Ellington, Reynolds County, Missouri. In 1933 her father, Thomas, was killed in an automobile accident. Virginia, her mother Bessie and her two sisters, Vivia and Mildred, moved from Ellington to Springfield. Virginia studied cosmetology here and worked at The Blue Bonnet Beauty Salon.
Virginia married Ross A. Hart, a Springfield police officer. Virginia and Ross had one child, Virginia Kay. In 1946 Ross Hart died. In order to be near her daughter, Virginia cooked in the cafeteria at Fairbanks School. In 1948, Virginia met and married Earl D. Stone. They had one son, John Andrew Stone.
In Virginia's life, family and church were paramount. She worshiped at St. Luke United Methodist Church, taught a bible study class and quilted with the circle there until it closed. Accomplished at needle work, whether knitting, crochet, embroidery or quilting, Virginia made many beautiful works of fabric for her friends and family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her father and mother, Thomas and Bessie Dinkins, by her first husband, Ross Hart and by her second husband, Earl Stone.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Virginia Kay Martin and by her son-in-law, Charles Dudley Martin; survived by her son, John Andrew Stone and by her daughter-in-law, Ann Stone; survived by her sister, Vivia Kinkade, and by her sister Mildred "Mickey" Hammond and by her brother-in-law, Doral Hammond. Virginia has four grandchildren: Ross Martin, Debbie DeMan, April Havner and Trishia Haviland. Virginia has six great grandchildren: Makenzie Rache, Kaitlyn Havner, Christopher Haviland, Andrew Haviland, Brianna DeMan and Sophia DeMan. Virginia is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home on Friday, December 28, beginning at 5:30 P.M.
Virginia Stone's funeral will be held at the same funeral home on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield.
