Virginia Domer

Virginia "Genny" Marie Jones Domer went to sleep in her home on August 4, 2010, and woke up in the arms of her Lord. She was surrounded by her loving family. Genny was born on March 14, 1925 in Blackey, Kentucky, to Leslie and Lucy Jones. She resided in Baltimore, Maryland, until 2004, when she moved to Springfield to be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ellsworth L. Domer (01/04/1997).

Genny is survived by her daughter, Dolores L. Pohl, her son-in-law Howard Pohl, her grandchildren, David Vain and Kim, Vicki Pohl, Lisa Hearn, Julie Phillips and Jeff, and Richard Pohl and Paige, sister-in-law, Alice Wellington, several nieces and nephews, and many, many loving friends. She also leaves behind five great grandchildren, Richard and Jonathan Hearn, Megan and Madison Phillips and Kodie Pohl.

Genny's struggle with cancer was very difficult, but she handled it with extraordinary courage and with grace. She was a beautiful person and will be forever missed by all who loved her. Although she is no longer with us, she will live forever in our hearts and our memories. Genny spent her life helping others and doing what she loved most, working with children. She never met a stranger and was always willing and ready to help wherever she was needed. Genny loved to travel the countryside with her good friend Alice Phillips. She loved to spend time watching wildlife and the birds.

A memorial celebration of Genny's life will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, Missouri, officiated by Fr. Daniel Robles later this month. Arrangements are under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. She will be placed next to her husband in the National Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Sacred Heart Church or to Dickerson Park Zoo (3043 N. Fort, Springfield, Missouri 65803).
