Long-time Alexandria, VA, resident Vera Kopacz Morris, born December 15, 1924 in Berlin, Germany, passed away Sunday, May 1, in Ash Grove, MO.
Vera came to the US in 1947 and in Punxsutawney, PA, married Jay Carl Morris, a US soldier she met while he served in Berlin. They settled in Alexandria where Vera proudly became a naturalized citizen in 1955. Vera worked for many years at the Rambler/American Motors dealership on Mount Vernon Avenue and then at Thrifty Car Rental. She was a popular resident of Fox Chase where she took part in many activities including the Senior Olympics in which she won numerous swimming medals. After retiring she moved to the Claridge House where she did volunteer work and had many close friendships. Vera was predeceased by her husband in 2003.
She is survived by her son Jeffry J. Morris, her daughter-in-law Carleen, her grandsons Jacob and Matthew of Bois d'Arc, MO, and by her daughter Kathleen (Kim) Morris-Fess and her son-in-law Kenneth Fess of Annandale, VA.
