Thomas Hall

Thomas Francis Hall, son of the late Dolores Isabelle Groth Hall and Leonard Nicholas Hall, was born October 11, 1960, in St Louis, MO. He went home in the arms of Angels on December 09, 2020, at the very young age of 60 years.

Tom was the 10th of 11 children and grew up in a home that would become known as “The house on Lohmeyer Street” where Tom grew up surrounded by a lot of fun, chaos and discipline. His mother was the calm in the eye of the storm called life and his dad worked 80 hours a week to provide for his family. There are many stories about Tom growing up in Maplewood. He often laughed the hardest when relating tales about his older siblings creating chaos and memories in a house made of love.

When Tom was about 15 years old, his family moved to a farm south of St. Louis to a small town called Lonedell, MO where his lifelong love of the outdoors was born. Life changed again for him when the family moved. Tom and his brother, Danny, made a great mischievous team and managed to give his mother multiple gray hairs. He was known to his many nieces and nephews as Crazy Uncle Tom. He would let them jump on beds, run around the house and was “That” uncle everyone wanted to have. After graduating from St. Clair High School in 1978, over the next few years he was a pallet builder, Uncle Tom the babysitter, and attended a few colleges working on his degree. He eventually landed at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO where he met Cheryl Boze while she was working as a cashier at a local grocery store. He always managed to checkout through her line and eventually convinced her to join him on a date. Their first date was attending St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the rest is history. Tom and Cheryl married in 1991 in Clayton, MO with the Justice of the Peace and later had their wedding blessed at St. Agnes by Father Keifer after moving back to Springfield.

Tom Hall’s family Dynasty began with Hannah Marie the following year. She was followed by Ian Anderson, Daniel Riley, Mary Grace, George Harrison and Ralph JohnPaul. Tom was blessed with six beautiful children and a trophy wife. Life was good and once again, love built a house on Woodcliffe Dr. He was always so proud of Cheryl, the education she attained, her love of people, flowers and life. He was only a “request” away if she needed his help at school, church, flea market booths or just because.

Tom was a dedicated father, who worked hard to provide for his family. Most of his married life he worked two jobs. He worked for Walmart for over 20 years in addition to helping raise the kids beside Cheryl. He cherished spending time with family and friends. The annual “summer sizzle” was always a highlight, and Tom had great stories to regale his kids with after his return. Phil, Kevin, Frommy, Mike, Tom W, Dave, Skully and the whole Sizzle gang made for a yearly highlight for Tom. For over 40 years, Tom and friends would gather for a campout and river float trip. His most treasured outings were with his Family on road trips to the Rockies, Badlands, Florida, and eventually to Philadelphia where three of the kids attended La Salle University. Tom was a devoted son in law to Dean and Mary Boze in part due to losing his own parents so young. You would find Dean & Mary in a car with Cheryl and a couple of kids and Tom would drive a 2nd car with the older kids and the Beatles blaring for almost all the major road trips. He loved going to the West Plains Farm and puttering around the land, sleeping on the couch, watching football and enjoying Mary’s home cooking. Tom loved nature and the outdoors. He was always up for camping, float trips and family reunions. It was his opportunity to breathe, laugh, and let his hair down.

Never missing a chance to crack a joke, Tom’s witty sense of humor was always on display. He was very funny and a talented writer. For many years he was known to author some witty dialogue on the Hall family web page and would have Cheryl read his Letter to Santa at the Hall family Christmas parties. He loved working out crossword puzzles, trivia, and could slay anyone with sports facts. He was an avid reader and could talk music to anyone who would listen. His passion for music was legendary, especially loving the Beatles, Tom Petty, The Who and George Harrison. That love for music lives on in his children, who most certainly have a great taste in music, and can sing along to every Beatles song. Additionally, he leaves to his children over 1000 original albums by his favorite artists, multiple speakers, stereos and sound systems. More importantly, Tom leaves a legacy that will live on in his six children and the generations to come.

As a cradle Catholic, and due to the Faith that he lived while growing up, Tom sacrificially made sure everyone of his kids attended Catholic school K-12 and weekly Mass. The kids have all served a multitude of funerals, set up and cleaned up for church functions, and volunteered. Tommy was quiet and shy about many things but his expression of Love for the Lord was loud by the way he instilled that rock solid faith in his kids. Hannah, Ian, Daniel, Mary Grace, George and Ralph are honest, loyal, compassionate, hard working, smart, dependable young people and the ripple effects the world will know is because of the House that Love built with Tom and Cheryl.

Tom has departed this earth far too early, but he leaves behind countless wonderful memories that will live on forever with anyone that had the good fortune to know him. Tom has joined his parents Leonard and Dolores, father in law Dean Boze, siblings Greg and Daniel, various aunts, uncles, and his grandparents, Nana and Bump in Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cheryl Lynn Boze Hall; children Hannah and husband Trevor, Ian, Daniel, Mary Grace, George, Ralph and Ginger the Wonder Dog. Tom is also survived by eight of his siblings, Nick and wife Mona; Gary; Ralph and wife Cinda; Mark and wife Eileen; Terry; Marsha and husband Henry; Mary; Michelle and husband Terry. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
