Terresa Cox

Terresa Faye Cox was born December 11, 1956, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. I was named after two people, a nun named Terresa who helped deliver me and after my aunt, Fay Elvira Scroggins who passed away in 1937 at the young age of 14 due to complications of Diabetes. I met my demise on November 4th, 2024, due to Renal Disease/Diabetes at Springfield, Missouri at Cox South Hospital at the age of 67.

I am the third and youngest child of Bob Alva Cox and Alice Elmarine (Scroggins) Cox of Ash Grove, Missouri. I grew up in Ash Grove and went to School there where I got into mischief with my good friend Delores. My Parent's got divorced when I was at a young age and my mother re-married in 1971 to my stepfather, Frank James Bowers. My Mother and I moved to Springfield, Missouri to live with Frank when I was 15, where I finished school and graduated from Central High in 1975.

In 1977 I gave birth to my one and only child, "Derrick Edward Cox" my ultimate passion, my pride and joy, my guiding light, and my most treasured accomplishment…”

I went to Draughn’s Business College and got a degree in stenography and then went to OTC to become a C.N.A. I worked at Park Central Hospital, now known as "Lakeland Behavioral Health System," in Springfield, Missouri from 1976-1993 as a Dietary Aide and a Switchboard Operator. In between that time, I lived in Greenfield, Missouri, off and on, and worked as a C.N.A in Lockwood, Missouri Nursing Home. I then worked at Greene Haven Nursing Home in Springfield, Missouri as a C.N.A starting in 1993 until leaving in 2007 due to declining health. I loved working with the Elderly and Alzheimer Patient’s.

I enjoyed playing the organ when I was younger, swimming, bowling, playing pool, watching movies, jeopardy, wheel of fortune, chomping on ice, burgers, fish, popcorn, watching soaps, loved purses, naming my son and stuffed animals after soap opera characters and playing BINGO with my friends. I was married once and only for a year and that was a year too long! HAHA! Although, I did have two fantasy husbands "Harry Styles", "Eric Braeden" and one fantasy Son "Patrick Mahomes". "Hubba Hubba.”

Surviving me include one son, Derrick Cox of Springfield, Missouri, two sisters, Brenda Butler and husband Grady of Springfield, Missouri, Kelly Thomas and husband Scott of Springfield, Missouri; One Sister-in-law, June Cox of Nixa, Missouri; three nieces, Michelle Swyers, Tina Boyd, Nichole Espinoza; two nephews, Sean Runcorn, Jason Cox, many great and great-great - nieces and nephews. I also had the loving extended family of Cassie Owens of Abilene, Texas, Charlie Batson of Clearmont, Wyoming, and many cousins and friends.

I was preceded in death by my Father, Bob Cox who passed away due to Pancreatic Cancer and Alzheimer’s in 1992 at the age of 70, my mother, Alice Bowers passed away due to Diabetes complications in 1993 at the age of 67, my stepfather; Frank Bowers passed away in 2004 at the age of 94, We lost my big brother, Gary Wayne Cox unexpectedly in 2022 at the age of 72, my uncle, Billy Scroggins passed away in 2022 at the age of 86.

I would like my sister, Brenda Kay to do a eulogy. The one who knew me from the beginning to the end, the one that can share my accomplishments, embarrassments and blunders in life. Thank you for being my big Sis, always looking after me. I always enjoyed our family get togethers over the Holiday's and enjoyed it when you said the blessing. However, you might want to shorten the eulogy because sometimes your blessings were a little long-winded and our food always got cold. HA!

In my memory, donate to the Kidney foundation, American Diabetes Association, go eat a good burger or fish, play a game of Bingo, chomp on some ice in Derrick's ear or wear something in my favorite color blue.

Terresa’s Son would like to give a special Thanks to the Home Dialysis unit at Cox Health for their great care and support, everyone at his work "Lakeland" for their kind care, support and flexibility over the years.

My mother had several procedures and surgeries starting at a young age, including being on Dialysis since October of 2012 and was a fighter up to the very end. She was a beloved mother, sister and aunt who will be missed dearly. She was a kind and loving person with the sweetest smile and voice.
