Ted Getchell

Lloyd Eldred “Ted” Getchell died in his home, surrounded by close family, on October 22, 2018, at the age of 78.

Ted placed his faith in Jesus Christ in adulthood and spent the latter half of his life striving to be more like Jesus. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Miki, whom he now joins in heaven. The two actively served in the local church, pursued a deeper understanding of the Gospel through Bible study, and passionately shared the Gospel with many who crossed their paths. For several years, they were dedicated court-appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteers, ministering to children in juvenile detention regularly on Sundays.

Ted was born July 1, 1940, in Gardiner, Maine to Erma Evelyn Getchell (Tyler) and Lloyd Eldred Getchell Sr. He graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine in 1958. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Atlantic Union College in 1963. Ted’s professional career included teacher, manager in the automotive industry, management consultant, and business owner. While he considered the University of Michigan Wolverines (Ann Arbor) his home team, Ted’s career moved him to Phoenix AZ and Sioux City IA. He spent his final years near family in the Springfield, MO area.

Ted will be remembered as a classic car enthusiast. Family and friends will remember him driving, maintaining, and repairing his Lincolns and other classics, as well as collecting car memorabilia. Ted also enjoyed playing golf and tennis.

He is survived by his daughter, Heidi Medina; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Debbie Getchell; daughter, Michele Barker; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Tom Gengler; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Michelle Getchell; nine grandchildren; and brothers, Garry Baer and Wayne Baer.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Miki (2014); step-father, Richard Baer (1973); mother, Evelyn Baer (1968); brother, Roland (1947); and father, Lloyd Eldred Getchell (1943).

A private memorial service will be held by the family.
