Stephen Alan Hughes, age 64 passed away Thursday Feb. 10, 2011 after battling a long illness.
He was born February 11, 1947 in the state of Maine. Stephen was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam during the early 1970's. After serving his country, he became a sheriff's deputy for the Essex County Sheriff's Department in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Stephen retired from the sheriff's department in the early 1990's and then resided in Springfield, Missouri.
He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandpa, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend who was well known for his passion of collecting military models.
Stephen was proceded in death by his parents, William W. and Helen E. (Scott) Hughes and his brother, Kurtis Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen M. Hughes, his daughters, Renee' M. Stanley of Sandy, Oregon and Tanya L.H. Stanford of Haverhill, Massachusetts; his son, Scott J. Yan of Salem, New Hampshire; and numerous grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday February 18, 2011 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.
