Ruth Kathleen "Kaye" Clarkson died at 9:07 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 17, 2004 in Cox South Hospital following a long illness.
Ms. Clarkson born July 29, 1923, in Liberal, Missouri, the only child of Fred and Julia Dazey, who predeceased her. There are no other survivors.
Ms. Clarkson graduated from Liberal High School, and attended college at Kansas State. She was a teacher, an editor at the Kansas City Star, an executive at Western Electric, director of Missouri Girls Town, and superintendent of Hilltop School for Girls. She entered a two year internship in clinical psychiatric social work at Western Missouri State Mental Health Center in 1965, became a staff member from 1967 until her transfer to Missouri Division of Family Services in Springfield in July, 1972, where she remained until her retirement in December, 1988. She became volunteer Social Work Coordinator for the Hungry & Homeless Programs of Greene County under Sr. Lorraine Biebel of The Kitchen, Inc. in January, 1989 and continued in this capacity as long as her health permitted.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today Aug. 19, 2004 in Liberal Cemetery, Liberal, Missouri with Rev. James Coble officiating under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
No visitation is planned.
A memorial service will be held at Franciscan Villa in Springfield at a later date.
