Rose Palermo Schiro, 91, Springfield, passed away at 12:54 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006 in St. John's Mercy Hospital following a short illness.
Rose was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and an evacuee of Hurricane Katrina. She was born December 11, 1914 in Timberton, Louisiana to Louis and Lena (Fazzino) Palermo. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nicholas Charles Schiro; her brothers, Anthony Joseph Palermo, and Pasquale Palermo; her sisters, Sarah Archer, Grace Levigne, and Josephine Palermo; and her nephew Blaise Levigne.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Sr. (Rosemary) Nicholas Schiro, RSM; her brother, Louis J. Palermo, Jr.; her nephews, Joe Palermo, Louis Palermo and Sal Serio, Jr., and her nieces, Catherine Levigne Serio, Nina Levigne Breaud, Frankie Levigne Stogner, and Cathy Serio Boever, She is also survived by many cousins, friends, including two very close friends, Sr. Mary Evelyn Fournet, RSM and Sr. Mary Celeste Thibeaux, RSM.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 in Mercy Villa's Chapel with Father Mark Ernstman celebrant, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. and last until the start of the service.
There will be a second Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006 in St. Angela Merici Church, Metairie, Louisiana with Fr. Paul Schott, SJ and Fr. Ken Hedrick celebrants. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time in the church. Entombment will be in Lake Lawn Mausoleum in New Orleans, Louisiana at a later date.
