Robert Kurre

Robert B. Kurre, 86, Springfield, Mo., departed this earthly life at 2:55 p.m. , March 13, 2010, in The Manor at Elfindale.

Robert was born June 15, 1923, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Harry and Catherine (Braun) Kurre. Robert served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1946. He was a master woodworker and an avid follower of the history of the railroad system. He had a thirst for the knowledge of how things worked. This passion led him to his career path of engineering at the Wayne Corporation in Richmond, Indiana where he was the Director of Engineering. Robert held the US patent for the Lifeguard School Bus design. He held lifetime memberships in the Society of Automotive Engineers, the National Model Railroad Association and the Knights of Columbus.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arleen M. Kurre. Robert and Arleen enjoyed nearly 60 years of life together. They began their married life with a steamboat cruise on the Gordon Greene. Throughout their marriage they took several other steamboat cruises. However, none was as special as their honeymoon voyage. It was so special to them, that Robert researched the construction of the boat and embarked on the life-long task of building a scale model of their honeymoon cruise. Robert used his engineering and master woodworking skills to construct a museum-quality replica of the Gordon Greene steamboat. He was always glad to show anyone who stopped by, and give them the history behind "the boat".

Robert is survived by his children, Donald and Imogene Kurre, North Platte, Nebraska, Kathleen Kurre, Atlanta, Georgia, Charles Kurre, Phoenix, Arizona, and Eric and Victoria Kurre, Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Beth, Ben, Sarah, Chancellor, Makenzie, and Brighton; and Robert and Arleen's faithful dog, Annie.

Funeral Mass will be at 11a.m. Wednesday March 17, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Chapel with Monsignor Thomas Reidy, celebrant, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
