Robert C. (Bob) Blair was born on March 29th, 1952 in Springfield, Missouri and died on September 29, 2010 at his home in Webster County.
Bob was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his mother. Bob was a graduate of Springfield Catholic High School in 1970 and graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a BS Degree in Psychology in 1977. In 1979 Bob started his 26 year career with the Missouri Department of Corrections as an Institutional Activities Coordinator at the Fordland Honor Camp. He became a Caseworker in 1982, an Associate Superintendent in1995 and transferred in 1998 to the Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in St. Joseph, Missouri to assist in the development and opening of that facility. He willingly assumed the role as the facility's "technocrat" overseeing and insuring the planning, purchase, implementation and installation of the facility's multiple security systems.
In addition Bob willingly accepted additional projects related to inmate program development. Under Bob's direct supervision he led his team in the development and implementation of an inmate management pilot program which earned the Missouri Department of Corrections recognition in 2000 as a semi-finalist for Innovations in American Government, a program of the Ford Foundation and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Bob also served as the Emergency Squad Commander and he coordinated and participated in all emergency training drills and exercises, internal and with outside agencies. He remained at WRDCC as Associate Superintendent until his retirement in 2005 at the age of 53. He returned to Southwest Missouri to enjoy his retirement.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman, a great cook, and a voracious reader who loved history. Bob was best known to be a good and loyal friend to many who were fortunate enough to may have had the opportunity to have known him. The memory of his great sense of humor, quick wit, exceptional intelligence and contributions to his career will dim with time. The memory of his friendship will be etched forever in the memory of those who knew and loved Bob Blair.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday October 10, 2010 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut Street.
