Richard Douglas Moore, 71, of Ash Grove, passed away quietly at home on Monday, December 7, 2020. Rick was born in 1949 in Everett, Washington but moved to Ash Grove with his family as a child. Rick graduated from Ash Grove High School and was proud to have been president of his senior class. He studied family therapy at Southwest Baptist University and Washington University. He went on to work as a family therapist at Missouri Division of Youth Services for 29 years. His many DYS colleagues became lifelong friends.
Rick retired in 2007 to travel the world and enjoy his many passions including his gardens and all things outdoors. Rick had many adventures in Spain, Russia, Italy, France and even went paragliding in Switzerland. He used to quote Mark Twain by saying “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
At home, Rick was a master woodworker and built beautiful furniture for friends and family. He was an avid reader, a lover of music and a Cardinals baseball fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Moore, and an infant son, Timothy Patrick Moore.
Rick is survived by his mother, Luetta Moore, his daughter Christy Wells and husband Adam, granddaughter, Harper Wells, brothers, Randy Moore and wife Terry Beth, Terry Lee Moore and wife Kaye, sister, Lisa Moore, and a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and cherished friends across the globe.
Rick’s family will celebrate his life at a later date out of respect for the health and safety of his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Kidney Fund at kidneyfund.org.
