Rex Roy

February 13, 1937 — September 28, 2024

Rex Roy

Rex Alden Roy was born on February 13, 1937 and passed away on September 28, 2024 at the age of 87. He was born to Clarence and Eunice Roy in Cane Hill, Missouri, where he grew up on the Roy farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse. He went on to graduate from Stockton High School in 1954.

At the age of 16, Rex spent about a year at Cox Hospital, receiving treatment after contracting polio. Thankfully, the only lingering effect from the polio was one leg being shorter than the other, but this did affect him more and more as he aged.

In 1957, he met and married Carol Bugg, a marriage that lasted 51 years until Carol’s passing in July of 2018. Shortly after the wedding, they traveled to California with another couple, and as the story goes, didn’t quite have the money to return to Missouri. So, they got settled and made a life there, working various jobs including Rex being a dairyman. This led to a position in Fresno, California at United Grocers. And in 1976, Rex got an opportunity to stay in the Teamsters Union by moving to Springfield, Missouri, and be closer to family while working for Associated Grocers. In addition to his work with Associated Grocers, Rex managed a Horned Hereford business in Strafford, Missouri for Dr. Mac Bonebrake for several years after he retired from Associated Grocers in 1998.

Rex is survived by his daughter, Denise & Dan Kendrick; a granddaughter, Jordan Goodwin; two great grandsons, Kendrick & Hudson; his brother, Larry & Sylvia Roy; along with nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Maples who passed away in 2022.

He was a good, good man who had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
