On April 28, 2015, Rex Dean Mueting, Sr ( born 3/1/56 in Springfield, MO) lost his war with cancer. Always the proud soldier, he remained in the fight until the very end. It's hard to imagine that even something as formidable as Oral Cancer could knock him down.
If ever anyone loved life, it was Rex. After a long day of hard work he would sit down with a smile and say, "I'm deliciously tired." That phrase alone sums up his daily attitude to any challenges that came his way and yes, even to cancer.
He never took 'no' for an answer. That's how he won the heart of a sixteen-year-old girl named Terri, who was determined to play hard-to-get. But he burst through the office door at her summer job and burst through her resolve not long after. And what did these High-School sweethearts get? Forty-One years of marriage that was really just one long conversation punctuated with laughter. And one perfect son, Rex Dean Mueting, II.
Rex flung himself at life. So choosing to be a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in 1974 was a natural choice for him. He loved the Army. A soldier through and through, he loved serving out the final years of his service as a supply sergeant in the Missouri Army National Guard.
After closing out his military career, twenty years later, he started his own concrete construction company, RTR Enterprises. He was happy to work side-by-side with his son on many projects. It's a blessing to look around at so many places and see the work he did which will continue to stand for years to come.
As the senior usher at the 8:30 am Mass at St. Agnes Cathedral, he could always be found talking and laughing with each person who came through the door. His smile was for everyone. A smile or a small compliment on a ladies dress were the gifts he easily shared with one and all. His presence filled the room and every room will be a little emptier now without him. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Terri, his son and the apple of his eye, Rex Dean Mueting, II, of Everton, along with daughter-in-law Samantha and four grandchildren who will miss their Pop, Rex Dean III, Bonnie Ann, David Alan and Melody Rose. He is also survived by a brother, Kevin Tilford of Walnut Grove. He is preceded in death by his parents Joan Vadna Prosser Mueting and John Robert Mueting.
Throughout his long battle with Cancer he had one steadfast partner by his side, his beloved golden-lab, Lizzie. She was there for every bit of pain and every slowing step. She was and is a true friend and he would never forgive us if we didn't include her in this roster of loved ones.
