Rene Vaughn

Rene Vaughn, a loving husband and father, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the age of 46 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rene and Kathy (Nobles) were married 17 years and had two daughters, Rena and Resa, and one step daughter, Cori Hammonds.

He grew up on a farm in Ozark, MO and graduated from high school in 1977. He worked for Paul Mueller company for 18 years as a welder. Rene founded Heavens Helpers Inc. (a non-profit charitable organization) where clothing, furniture, and miscellaneous items were given freely to anyone with a need regardless of income.

He was a member of Central Assembly of God in Springfield. He was a van driver, an usher, and Rene was involved in honorbound. One of his favorite things to do was to watch movies with his family whether at the theater or at home. Some of his fondest memories were: going on vacation to Texas with his dad, his last family vacation to Memphis, TN, floating in a boat on our pond, working on the living Christmas tree at High Street Baptist Church, bible studies with Jerry and Kristen Donovan, delivering toys to Boyd Elementary School as Santa Claus, and delivering donations, from Heavens Helpers Inc., to a girl scout troop. As a young adult Rene enjoyed playing in his tree house on the farm, and being with Charlotte, his cousin.

Rene is survived by his wife Kathy, their two daughters, Rena, 16, Resa, 12, and step-daughter Cori Hammonds, 22; his parents Raymond and wife Pat, Roberta Vaughn, and two brothers, Randy and wife Brenda, Rudy and wife Sharon; his father and mother-in-law, Dean and Karolyn Schoolcraft; two nieces and four nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 23, 2005 with funeral services starting at 2:00 p.m., all in Central Assembly of God with Pastor Jim Bradford officiating under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut.

All memorial contributions may be made to BBFI, P.O. Box 802757, Kansas City, MO 64180, donor #89740.

The family wants to thank Dr. Galen Hasler for always being there and being a friend, Gary and Connie Miller for their mentoring, Rudy and Loretta Doric for being our best friends. Special thanks go to all of the prayer warriors.
