Ramona Brewer

Ramona Ruth Brewer, (Mona), 78, left this world on Saturday May 17th to join her husband, Jimmie Brewer in Heaven. A truly remarkable woman, Ramona was the mother to six children who loved and cherished her until the day she passed.

Ramona was born to Jack and Maude Wiles on January 22nd, 1936 in Republic, Mo. She met her husband Jimmie Brewer while he was on leave from the Air Force, while she was working at Woolworth’s. As she tells it, a young handsome Air Force airman was hanging around the store eyeing her, and she finally walked up to him, and said “hey are you going to buy something or continue standing there looking silly.” That began a 60 year relationship that took them all over the World. To that union came 6 children, and Ramona became the Mom of the Century!

Ramona spent most of her life raising her 6 children and taking care of her husband. She cherished her role as mother and wife. She was a tremendous cook, and her homemade pizzas and Sunday morning breakfasts are legendary. She made every single Christmas and Holiday special, decorating the house accordingly, and baking continually. You could set your clock by the time dinner was ready each evening, and she demanded sit down meals, as this was “family time”. Her sense of humor and quick wit was second to none, and she shared these attributes with everyone that crossed her path. When her 6 children were older she opened a daycare in the home in order to care for her grandchildren, and touched many children’s lives. At the ripe old age of 70 she began waitressing at Wanna Getta Pizza where many customers came just to be served by “Mona”. She never met a stranger, loved all children, and she was the original creator of the “Random acts of Kindness”. She will be dearly missed by everyone that was lucky enough to cross her path.

Ramona was a member of the Red Hats society, and shared her faith with many for several years at Immaculate Conception Church. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmie, of 60 years, her brothers, Frank and Jack Wiles, and sisters, Betty Strong and June Bertholdi. She is survived by her sons Gary, Larry and Ben Brewer from Springfield, son Jimmie Brewer and wife Susan of Forsyth, daughter Susan Meyer and her husband Dr. Tom Meyer from Springfield and daughter Alice Brewer and her longtime partner Darrell Smith of Springfield. She is also survived by her daughter in law Kim Brewer, 13 grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. She will also be deeply missed by her faithful four legged, Yorkie, Bella.

Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday May 22, 2014 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday May 21, 2014 in the funeral home.
