Phyllis Deforrest

Phyllis M. Taylor DeForrest, passed away in her home at age 83, in Springfield, MO on October 14, 2015. She was born February 25, 1932 in Higginsville, Missouri. She is the daughter of Wilbur and Minnie Baumgardner Taylor. Phyllis graduated from Osceola High School, Osceola, MO. She graduated from Springfield Baptist School of Nursing, she was the first school nurse at Reeds Spring, Mo, and taught Health Occupations at Omar Gibson Area Vo-Tech.
She was a dedicated nurse for 50 years, retiring from Skaggs Community Hospital in 2004. Since retiring Phyllis enjoyed gardening and her two dogs Max and Mitzie. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Mark DeForrest and her daughter, Vanessa DeForrest Buford; her five grandchildren, Chrissy DeForrest, Dylan DeForrest, Tony Patrick, Tiffany Patrick Biggs, Justin Buford and his wife Katie; her eight great grandchildren, Zach, Kayelyn, Maylia, Brooke, Gavin, Kaylee, Ethan, and Evan and one great-great grandson, Dax. She is also survived by two brothers, Ned Taylor and James Taylor; one nephew Buck Taylor and his wife Janet; two nieces, Debbie Anglin Behee and her husband, Walter and Tammie Taylor Brown and her husband, Allen. Phyllis is survived by many other family and friends, including her best friend Patty Nitzschke. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Rebecca DeForrest, and her sister, Alberta Taylor Anglin.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday October 19, 2015 with the memorial service following at 2 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church at 922 W. Republic Road, Springfield, Missouri with Pastor Scott Bailey-Kirk officiating. Memorial arrangements are under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
