Owen Lavern Goetschius, age 88, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away in the morning hours of Thursday, May 5, 2023.
He was born on March 18, 1935, in Kampeska, South Dakota; the son of Perry Earl Goetschius and Ruth Margaret Ellis, and was the oldest of 6 siblings.
Owen attended Newell-Providence High School in Newall, Iowa and graduated in 1954.
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Portland, Oregon. He went on to become a Technical Sergeant and received a medal for good conduct. Owen was discharged from the Air Force in 1958 and was then living in Orange County, California.
Owen married Beverley Taylor and together had 3 children. He then married Joy Goetschius and gained a step-daughter. He worked as a salesman and resided in Springfield, Missouri. Owen enjoyed car racing, Nascar, and Dale Earnhardt.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, and survived by his sons, Randal (Marilyn) Goetschius of Kansas City, and David (Theresa) Goetschius of Staunton, Indiana; daughter, Lynn (Robert) Pizante, of Watsonville, California; step-daughter, Cynthia (James) Crenshaw; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; his first wife and mother of his children, Beverly Taylor; ex-wife and longtime friend, Joy Goetschius, along with many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Graveside service, will full military honors, will be held for Owen at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, located on Southwood Road, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 10:00 am, with Pastor David Huett presiding over the services and under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
