Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Hillme, 98, passed away on April 23rd, 2013. She was born Oct. 16, 1914 to JT and Charity Pendleton on the Coleman fruit farm north of Marionville, near McKinley. She lived there until she was eighteen when her father had a house built on the Pendleton property which joined the Coleman place.
Mildred attended McKinley grade school for eight years then attended Marionville High School, graduating in 1934. She attended Draughon's Business College in Springfield and worked at Turner's Department Store as a bookkeeper.
She met her future husband, Herbert, at Mt. Olive Methodist Church, Marionville, where he was pastor. They were married Sept. 1, 1936. She was active in the churches that her husband served in southern Missouri and was a life-long volunteer in the United Methodist Women. After pastoring several churches in the state and being District Superintendent of the Sedalia District of the Methodist Church, Herbert and Mildred returned to live in Springfield in 1970. At that time Mildred went to work for Montgomery Ward and worked part-time until retiring in 1982. In 1984, Mildred and Herbert joined Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was very active for many years.
Mildred loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for her family with many family meals ending with her delicious desserts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1999. She is survived by her son, John and wife, Patricia; granddaughter Meg and husband, Shaun Horne; granddaughter Liz and husband, Scott Reeves; and great-grandchildren Alexa and Elin Horne, and Henry Reeves.
Visitation will be Monday evening, 5 to 7 PM, in Wesley United Methodist Church, with funeral services, Tuesday, at 10:30 AM in the church. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Marionville. Arrangements are being handled by Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
