Maxine Graves

Maxine E. Graves, born April 29, 1922, went home to Our Lord November 6, 2016. She graduated from Central H.S. 1940, attended State Teachers College, Fresno State College, receiving her teaching degree from S.W. Baptist College in Bolivar. Maxine always wanted to teach. She taught in Climax Springs, Niangua, and retired in 1983 from Republic Schools where she taught fourth grade.
She substituted after retirement and had the joy of teaching her grandson there on occasion. Maxine was an accomplished violinist, beginning at age 4. She played with the Springfield Symphony for several years and loved to play special music at church. Maxine was a member at Southminster Presbyterian Church and remained active as long as her health allowed.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Graves, and sisters Pauline and Mattie Mae. She is survived by her daughter Annie Freelove; granddaughters Joy and Nick Zorsch, Kelley and Jeff Hicks, Kimberly and Jeremy Payton, and grandson Riley and Marie Freelove; six great grandchildren: Ben Vaughan, Lauren and Maxwell Payton, Madelyn, Lilly and Haylee Freelove. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Joann and Charles Wills, Debbie Rhyne, Gary and Linda Bass, Ken and Roseann Bass, Joseph Graves, and Rick Graves. And special friends Anna and Alan Stoltz.
She treasured her family, they brought her much joy. Maxine said that she had gotten to do everything that she wanted to do in this life.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Parlor. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, Missouri.
Memorial contributions made to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 2245 S. Holland, Springfield, Missouri 65807 in memory of Maxine.
