Maxine M. Bush, age 95 of Springfield, passed away May 18, 2014 in her home. She was born Nov. 5, 1918 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Vincent and Blanche Kruse. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating with honors from Bishop Ward High School class of 1936. She met Albert Joseph Bush in childhood; they were high school sweethearts and later married on Nov. 19, 1938. They reared their four children, Donald J., James M., Marilyn S., and Cynthia K. in Kansas City where Maxine was an active participant in her children’s interests and goals. She allowed them to play hard, climb trees, skin knees and be kids.
Upon retirement from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, Maxine and Al moved to Verona, Mo. and built their dream country home, where they lived 23 years enjoying “the good life”. There she participated in Garden Club and Extension Club, honing her skills with African Violets, and building the “best beef brisket” reputation. They endured a loving 61 years of marriage till Al’s death on Oct. 28, 2000.
In 2002, Maxine moved to Springfield to be closer to family and has remained a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church till her death.
Maxine’s life philosophy was simple. Be gracious and kind, keeping peace and a positive attitude. She along with her husband, held high standards and expected the same from their children. She was a loving mother and loyal friend.
She is survived by a son, James M. of Independence, Mo., a daughter Sue Kellhofer of Springfield, a brother Gene Kruse of Kansas City, Kansas; five grandchildren; Carmen Glenn, Kim Crites, Kerra Kutz, Joe Bush, Jim Kellhofer and six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Don, daughter Cindy and granddaughters Theresa and Molly.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 21, 2014 preceded by a 1 hour visitation in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Aurora, Mo under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
