Maryann Lohmeyer Johnston

Mary Ann, “Mitzie” Lohmeyer Johnston went to be with the Lord on June 29th, 2018.

“Mitzie”, as she was known by her family, was born in Springfield, Missouri, May 21, 1933, raised living on the top floor of the Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Her family was a busy household with four brothers; Gene, Herb, Wimp and Bob and a sister, Roberta. There were always great stories about growing up.

Mitzie attended St. Agnes Catholic School and then went on to college at The University of Oklahoma, where she met and married Paul Johnston. The couple lived in Oklahoma City, where their two children were born; Michelle (married Brian Maloney) and Paul (married Lisa Sandoval).

In 1964, moving to Blairstown New Jersey, she worked at Blair Academy, beginning her career as a secretary and ending in the Financial Development Department, 21 years later. Mary Ann would be the name that many would know her by in New Jersey.

In 1986, Mitzie moved back to Springfield to be near her family and continued her development career as the Capital Campaign and Special Projects Coordinator for Ozark’s Public Television. She finished her career working with The Kitchen, raising money to help those in need. In 2007 she moved to Colorado to be near her children and grandchildren.

Blessed by her grandchildren; Deacon and Courtney Maloney, Libby Maloney Maple and Nick Maple, Zeb and Lauren Maloney, Shyanna Maloney, Stephen and Jeremiah Johnston, and her great –grand daughter, Maisy Ann Maloney, she was known as “Honey”. “Honey” purchased her dream home in Gypsum, Colorado, a little red house on the river. She loved her time being near her family and enjoying the peace of the river. In Colorado, she was known as Mary Ann, where she took tremendous pride in feeding 100’s of hummingbirds each summer, using over 200 pounds of sugar per season for the feeders. Christmas cookies were one of her trademarks, gifting everyone from the Postal Service, her doctors, neighbors and friends. Her greatest passions were her family, her faith and her dog Louie.

Mitzie/MaryAnn was living alone in her home just prior to her illness which began in April.

The family wants to thank those who have been so supportive through calls, texts, visits, meals and prayers. We celebrate that mom is no longer in pain and is now with our Lord.
