Mary Mccoy

She was our sunshine, bringing us love and joy with her warmth and light.

Mary Elizabeth McCoy left this earth September 3rd, 2021. She was 69. Mary and twin sister Maureen were born in Warrensburg and grew up in Chesterfield, MO. After graduating from Parkway Central High in 1971 they moved to Springfield to attend SMSU. She and Dale were married in 1984 before moving to Los Angeles, where their two children were born in 1987 and 1988. The family returned to Springfield in 1993.

Mary made friends easily and maintained deep relationships with many. She had a magnet in her heart that attracted true friends. That magnet was unselfishness, considering others first. She loved simple pleasures¬¬ — walking her dogs, talking with friends, a good meal, enjoying a sunset, a good book, dancing to live music. On their first date, she and Dale and Maureen hung out at her apartment and played Scrabble, a pastime continued for over four decades. Mary won most of the time.

Mary is survived by her two children Max and Chelsea, Chelsea's partner Loren Larsen, twin sister Maureen, older brother Mike and family, younger brother Matt and family, and Dale, her soulmate of 42 years. Her greatest blessing in her final days was getting to know her grandson Rex, celebrating as he turned one year old. Mary's greatest joy was motherhood.

The family would like to thank the host of healthcare professionals and healers who helped Mary these last three years. You are too many to list, but you know who you are, and we know you will always remember Mary's courage and tenacity. We will certainly remember yours.

Mary's wish was "to be a tree." Her ashes will grow through the roots and into the limbs and leaves of a Red Maple to be planted in Maple Park Cemetery near the McCoy headstone, not far from the beloved gazebo where she and Dale were married. We hope to hold a memorial dedication there sometime in October after her tree is planted so that everyone will know where to visit her. More information to follow once details are settled.

Our hearts are laden with joy and sorrow. In our memories and in our dreams, Mary's love and joy, her warmth and light, continue to shine.
