Mary Henopp

Mary Louise Henopp, daughter of Veston Zappa and Lonnie (Purcell) Zappa, born on July 22nd, 1940, passed away peacefully in her home on October 17, 2024.

Mary was a ray of sunshine and lit up a room with her infectious smile. Mary was a mother to four children, but she was a person that touched so many lives with her genuine love for everyone. She worked many years at Primrose Place in Springfield until her retirement.

Mary was very involved in Springfield Park Board activities playing various sports and had a collection of many awards and trophies earned from her achievements! She proudly displayed these in her home, and they could be seen as soon as you walked in the door. In her past time, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching her crime shows, especially 48 Hours, sewing gifts for people such as baby blankets and hand towels, and painting many ceramic pieces.

Mary was very proud of her home and independence, and in the last several months she had been able to stay in her home where she wanted to be. Mary holds a special place in K and C Stepping Stones’ hearts. Her staff provided her with much love and care in those final weeks and hours. Mary was and will continue to be loved by many and will be missed very much. There is comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her family and is now a guardian angel for many.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alan Henopp; sons, Richard Zappa, John Henopp, and Kelly Henopp. She is survived by one daughter, Olive Henopp of Springfield.
