Mary Ann (Marian) Morhaus

Marian, 91, was born March 28, 1916 in St Louis, Missouri, and died on December 12, 2007, in Springfield, Missouri which had been her home since 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and her beloved husband, John. Marian is survived by her daughters, Janet Smith of Springfield, MO, Marilyn Zimmer of Jackson, WY, Nancy Penno and husband David of Hampton, GA, and a son, Robert Morhaus and wife Nancy of St. Louis, MO. Her 12 grandchildren are Clay and wife Teresa Smith, Brad and wife Janette Smith, Nathan and wife Jill Smith , all of Springfield, MO; Paula (Morhaus) and husband Mike Wood, Bill Morhaus, both of St. Louis, MO; Valerie Zimmer of Chicago, IL, Rachel Zimmer of Jackson, WY, Megan Zimmer of Bridgeport CT, Douglas Zimmer of Chicago, IL, and Lenore (Zimmer) and husband Sammy Herndon of Cape Girardeau, MO; Matthew and wife Heather Penno of Rochmort, GA, Eric and wife Melody Penno of Hampton, GA. Marian was the beloved great-grandmother of Taryn and Alexa Smith, Gretchen and Julian Wood, Violet Smith and soon to be Lillian Smith. She is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Maria Kyro and Joetta Kern of St. Louis, MO, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Marian was an active member of Mary, Queen of the Universe Catholic parish in Lemay, MO, from 1953 to 2002. When she moved to Springfield, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic parish. She leaves behind many friends and neighbors in St. Louis and Springfield, especially those staff and residents at The Waterford, her home for the last five years.

Marian made a gift of her body to St. Louis University. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, Springfield. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO, on Monday, December 17, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. A memorial Mass will also be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Springfield, MO, on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at 11:00 a.m.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the Mercy Villa staff for their compassionate care of mom in her final days.
