Martin A. Massoth, 92, died Aug. 12, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born on the family farm in Piqua, KS, Nov. 4, 1922. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Elizabeth Massoth and eight brothers: Paul, Francis, Leonard, Jerome, Raymond, Aloysius, Gerald and Julian.

Martin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Heffern Massoth and children, Dennis (Nora), Corydon, KY; Anita (Thomas) Murray, Austin, TX; Andrew (Laura), Springfield and Douglas, Springfield. He has 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martin enlisted in the Air Force in 1943, joining his three older brothers in their service during WWII. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering and after moving from Kansas City to Springfield in 1962 he joined Custom Trailers, Inc. as the sales and design engineer. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, taking time to volunteer at his church and the Boy Scouts. In his free time Martin was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, and loved to fix anything that needed it. His great devotion to God was evident in his compassion and care for those in need. He was generous and kind and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2818 E. Bennett, Springfield with Fr. Fergus Monaghan and Msgr. Thomas Reidy celebrant's. Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 with visitation following till 7:30 p.m. also in the church, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, Missouri.
