Mark V. Homan, 88, of Springfield passed away at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008 in ManorCare.
Mark was born March 8, 1919 in Helena, Ohio to Carl and Lillian (Wurtz) Homan. He served as a Captain in the US Army during World War II. He married Joan Hyland on June 29, 1943. Mark worked as carpenter by trade working for Datema Building Systems for a number of years. Many customers appreciated his very fine craftsmanship. He was a member of St. Agnes Cathedral and was the Custodian of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue for over 20 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; three children, Fred Homan and his wife Trudie of Blue Springs, Mo., Rosalyn M. Homan and Geri Grooms both of Springfield; 5 grandchildren, Andrea Pemberton, New York City, NY, Kiersten Plute, Kansas City, Mo., Alissa Matthews, Little Rock, Ark., Serena Harris, Little Rock, Ark, and Britany Grooms of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, Knox, Talulah and Tennessee Plute; his brother, Richard Homan of Brunswick, Ohio; and his sister, Catherine Lucius of Toledo, Ohio and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral mass will be at 12 noon, Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 in St. Agnes Cathedral with Fr. Mike McDevitt celebrant. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut St. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary service starting at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
