Marilyn Swisher

Marilyn Estelle Swisher was born on December 11, 1934, in Marshall, MO to Frank and Cecelia (Brockhaus) Stedem. She departed this life to join her husband, George, on September 25, 2022.

Marilyn grew up in Marshall, MO, attended Mercy High School and, subsequently, graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing and St. Mary’s College, Leavenworth, KS. She married George R. Swisher in November 1955 and was married for almost 60 years until his death in 2015. Their daughter, Rita, previously deceased in 2019 and son-in-law, Art, in August 2022. Marilyn leaves behind six children: Clarissa, Michael (Mary Ann), David, Tamara (John), Alisa, Glenn (Shelly), and son in law, Brent, along with 9 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Marilyn is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sharron Stedem; her sister, DiAnne Naros; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, June and Vernon Doyle, along with many nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones.

Marilyn was very active in 4-H as her children grew up, sewed many of their clothes and knew 101 ways to deliciously stretch a pound of hamburger. Her cinnamon rolls, hot yeast rolls and chocolate sour cream cakes with seven-minute frosting were family favorites. She worked as a registered nurse for 39 years, providing patient care in the Kansas City, MO, Springfield, MO and Muskogee, OK areas. She and George loved traveling with their motor home and visited all 50 states and Canada in the process. Until health prevented it, Marilyn was an active member of the choir at Sacred Heart Church, Springfield, MO.

Funeral mass will be 8:00am, Friday, October 14th, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield, MO. The rosary will be said a half hour before the services at 7:30am. Burial will be at 10:00am in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.

Per Marilyn’s wishes, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri.
