Marilyn Sue Tompkins McGee Dean, 81 of Springfield, MO, lovingly known as "Meme," passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, surrounded by her family in Springfield, Missouri. Born on November 17, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Marilyn was a true Texan at heart. Her warmth, kindness, and spirit of generosity radiated to everyone she met. As the matriarch of the McGee family, she was the heart and soul of her loved ones’ lives.
Marilyn was a woman of endless selflessness. She devoted herself to caring for others, always putting their needs ahead of her own. Whether it was offering a helping hand, providing a listening ear, or offering her unwavering support, she was a constant source of love and comfort to those around her. Her home and heart were always open, and she gave all of herself, even when she had little to give.
Marilyn was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, who cherished her family deeply. She was devoted in her faith of Christ and always put God first. She had a deep and unshakeable love for her animals and found joy in their companionship.
Despite a long and hard battle with cancer, she faced each day with grace, strength, and resilience.
She was preceded in death by her son, Marc McGee; her parents, Lola Mae and Robert Tompkins; her sister, Betty Wachtendorf; and her two beloved dogs, Bailey Bear and Tanner.
She is survived by her son, Gary McGee, and daughter-in-law, Michelle McGee; granddaughter Mariah McGee and Miranda Koenig (and her husband, Reid Koenig); grandson Maverick McGee; her cherished pet, Bandit; and her two nephews Jack and John Wachtendorf.
Her love for life was reflected in her joy for the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would transform her home into a festive wonderland. She also adored wearing silver and gold jewelry—never leaving the house without her gleaming pieces, the bigger the better!
Her legacy of love, care, and unwavering support will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will never be forgotten.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the many prayers and support they’ve received during this time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving plants, as Meme had a special love for them.
