Marie E. Cherry went to heaven May 10, at the age of 87, with her loving family by her side.
Marie was born and raised in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and graduated from nursing school in Chicago, Illinois. She joined the US Army in WW II and served as a nurse in the CBI Theater in India where she met and married her husband, Raymond.
They lived their married life in Springfield, where they owned the Independent Insurance Agency known as "Cherry on Cherry". She then worked at Cox Medical Center for 20 years as a nurse until here retirement.
Her husband, Raymond, and her son, Danny, preceded her in death. Survivors include sons, Mike, Tim and Greg; daughters, Anna Brake, Sharon Hughes and Karen Bridget Cherry; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday May 11, 2010 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut St. with Rosary services starting at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 12, 2010 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Private burial will be in Springfield National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, 1115 N. Campbell Springfield, MO 65802.
