Mrs. Margaret Washington Stewart, 90 of Springfield passed away at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006 in ManorCare Health Services.

Margaret was born Oct. 30, 1916 in West Plains, Mo. to Jesse David and Mary Arissia (Buford) Washington. She was a descendent of the Washington Family and a member of the Ladies Society of Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Stewart and her husband started the Queen City Good Sam's Club. She was a member of the Joie De Vivre Club and also was a member of South Street Christian Church

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Rosemary Schmidt, her grandson, David Schmidt, her brother and sister-in-law, Buford and Amy Washington, two sisters, Mary Sue Collins and Dorothy Hayter.

She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, William Everett Stewart of Springfield; two step-daughters, Shirley Jean Pope and her husband, Ron of Mansfield, TX, and Velva Davis of El Reno, OK.; her grandson, Paul Schmidt and his wife Marcia of Oklahoma City, OK.; six step-grandchildren and their spouses, Don and Judy Lagaly of Weatherford, TX, Kevin and Tammy Lagaly of Mansfield, TX, Terry and Stephanie Lagaly of Oklahoma City, OK, Kent and Deanne Lagaly, Brian and Theresa Davis, Kim and Darin Merveldt all of El Reno, OK. 15 step-great grandchildren, three step-great-great grandchildren; a nephew and niece, Claude and Kathy Washington of Reinbeck, IA; her brother-in-law, Al Hayter and his wife Bonnie of Carthage, MO; her son-in-law, Bill Schmidt, her sister-in-law, Jewell Beason of Bolivar, MO, and also a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut St. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens with Rev. George Latimer officiating.
