Margarete A. Scholz, 97, Springfield, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005 in Christian Health Care East. She was born April 28, 1907 in Wachtelkunzendorf Oberschlesia, Germany to Karl and Anna (Monka) Striegan. Margarete worked at Caspers restaurant for 17 years where she made many friends. Margarete was a member of the St. Anthony Guild at Holy Trinity. She was also active in the choir and was a greeter at Holy Trinity. Mrs. Scholz was a loving wife and mother. She encouraged her children to achieve through higher education. Margarete loved to work in her garden, and she enjoyed cooking. Margarete was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl John Scholz, Sr.; three sisters, Lena, Maria, and Elizabeth. She is survived by three sons, Karl J. Scholz, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Springfield, Paul J. Scholz of Belleville, IL; John P. Scholz and his wife Cynthia of Springfield; one daughter, Susan A. Carnahan and her husband Frank of Springfield; nine grandchildren: Becky Martin (Brian); Karl Scholz III (Lori); Ann Crane (Robert); Emily Rowe (Keith); Michael Scholz (Mandy); Matthew Scholz; John Scholz; Andrew Scholz and fianc� (Aimee); and Stephen Scholz (Katie); five great grandchildren: Simon, Carson, Claire, Phillip, and Jack; and one sister, Gertrude Berger of Germany; and other relatives in Germany and Canada along with many friends. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 05, 2005 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2818 E. Bennett with Father Fergus Monaghan celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 7 pm Monday with Rosary service starting at 7 p.m. all in the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2818 E.
