Margaret A. Piekarski, 75, Springfield, passed away at 7:08 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, in the comfort of her home, where she was surrounded by family.
She was born on August 21, 1949, in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Walter and Dorothy Gilcrease.
She graduated from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School and retired from Missouri State University in 2018, spending nearly 15 years serving students in the Business Advisement Center.
She was an avid traveler who loved the world’s natural beauty. Some of her notable adventures included the Petrified Forest, Arizona; Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado; and Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. She often spent long summers exploring the lakes and wineries of Upstate New York.
She loved hummingbirds, good wine, good company, and Fleetwood Mac.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter “Wally” Gilcrease.
She is survived by her 3 siblings, Jody (Robert) Frank, David Gilcrease, and De (Ali) Dashtipour; 6 children, John (Genny) Wurster, Becky Wurster, Walter Piekarski, Patrick Piekarski, Sean Griffin, and Timothy Griffin; 13 grandchildren, Pamela, Tony, Ashley, Rich, David, Dylan, Olivia, Elizabeth, Victoria, Sophia, Logan, Adalyn, and Walter Jr; and 8 great-grandchildren, Isabella, Aiden, Eli, Evan, Tristan, Iaan Jr., Ryan, Logan, and Jaxson.
A Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 in St. Agnes Chapel, 533 S. Jefferson Avnue in Springfield where Margaret's Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 with Father Lewis officiating under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield, MO.
