Margaret A. Merritt, 83, departed this life at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 in the Manor at Elfindale where she made her home the last several years due to a stroke.
Margaret was born December 18, 1924 in Clever, Mo. daughter of Freddie and Opal (Short) Merritt. She graduated from Clever High School and the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis. She worked at St. John's Hospital for a number of years until she had to retire because of her health. She took great pride in her career and in her church. She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Margaret is survived by her sisters, Ruth Ann Davis, and husband Arthur, of Buffalo, Yvonne Swadley, and Phyllis Branson, both of Springfield; her brother and his wife, Freeman and Pat Merritt of Mt. Vernon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - to 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with prayer services starting at 7 p.m.
