Margaret Helen Darden, beloved wife of George Oscar Darden, of Springfield, went to her heavenly home on August 5, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 14, 1912, to Harvey and Maud May (Coffey) Comstock in Nogo, Missouri. Helen and George were long time members of Christ Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Oscar Darden; her parents, Maud May Coffey and Harvey Comstock; sister, Marie Myers, brothers, Fred, Tom, and Dorsey Comstock. She is survived by her son, Stanley D. Darden and wife, Mary Anne; grandchildren, Timothy J. Darden and Margaret A. Darden, sister, Pauline Collins and sister-in-law, Pearl Darden.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, active volunteer in St. John's Hospital Auxiliary, and member of The Strafford Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star. She graduated from Strafford High School in 1931. She played girl's basketball for Strafford High School, and was selected as Greene County outstanding forward in 1931. She married George Oscar Darden in 1934. She loved walking, and being outdoors. Her favorite sport was competitive skeet shooting. She was Greene County skeet champion for four years and Missouri State champion for two years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday August 8, 2005 in Christ Episcopal Church with burial to follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm Sunday in the funeral home.
