Marc Abelson

Marc Wesley Abelson (1961-2021)

Marc was drawn to classical music at a young age and this led to a love for both the violin and viola, both of which he soon mastered. His passion was nurtured by both of his musically accomplished parents, who preceded him in death. Marc's mother, Diane Jonas Abelson, was a very popular piano teacher in the Kansas City area. His father, Dr. Norman Abelson, was a renowned bass-baritone opera singer. Marc was born in Munich, Germany and he spent his early years living in several European countries while his parents worked in the performing arts.

Marc was a graduate of Rockhurst University and continued his studies at the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis where he received his master’s degree. He spent over 20 years teaching violin and viola lessons to students of all ages.

Marc, may you continue to brighten the heavens with your musical talents! You were such an inspiration to everyone blessed to be your student.

Join us for a celebration of Marc’s life on Saturday, October 16th at 2:00 p.m., Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64113, 816-381-9249. Weather permitting the service will be outside in our Rose Garden, in case of rain, we will meet in the Chapel.
