M. Jean Harrington, 80, Springfield, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2008, in her home. She was born February 23, 1928 to Jesse Franklin and Eva Nolan Altom in Scott County, Missouri. She graduated from Blodgett High School in Blodgett, Missouri and then Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky.
Mrs Harrington taught high school at Oran, Missouri and Bell Flower, Illinois. She then relocated to Coffeyville, Kansas where she met and married Robert F. (Bob) Harrington on May 2, 1953. Together they raised three children, Bob, Jr., Julie, and Michael. The family moved to Springfield, MO in 1972 and Mrs. Harrington became an Accounting Instructor at Draughon Business College and Vatterot Business College, where she retired in 1998.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Irene Altom Minner; and brother, Frank Altom, Jr. She is survived by her husband Bob, of the home; sons, Bob Harrington, Jr. and wife, Janice, and Michael Harrington, all of Springfield; daughter, Julie Bales and husband, Kevin of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Hilary Bales-Morales and husband Joseph of Dallas, Texas, Audrey Bales of Seattle, Washington, and Joel Harrington of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Liam and Zia Elena Morales of Dallas.
Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon, Friday, October 10, 2008 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Monsignor Thomas Reidy, celebrant, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
Prayer services will be at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday) in the church.
