Lucy Redden

Lucy Messenger Redden was born December 29, 1934 to Dewey and Flora (Cox) Messenger and passed away January 7, 2021 in Springfield Missouri at the age of 86.

Lucy was born in Bois D’Arc Missouri and has always made the rolling hills of the Ozarks her home, growing up in Marionville Missouri. Countless times she took drives with no destination just to enjoy the beautiful landscape and reminisce about her childhood, with the spring wildflowers being her favorite.

Raising 8 children her strength, love and devotion was unsurpassed. There was nothing that she wouldn’t try and then succeed at, sewing, gardening, canning, cake decorating, floral design and making the best donuts and hot rolls in the world. She decorated cakes for every birthday and special occasion for her children, grandchildren, and co-workers. She donated several summers to cook for 80 Girl Scouts during summer camp. An avid blood donor, donating many gallons over her lifetime. She loved to fish and spend time at the lakes.

Lucy retired from St. John’s (Mercy) Hospital as a supervisor. She enjoyed her retirement with owning a flea market and several rental houses. She attended Baptist Temple in Springfield, Missouri.

Preceding in her death was her parents, Dewey Messenger and Flora Cox-Messenger-Dill, daughter, Linda Kay Chadwell, one sister Louise (Earl) Renfro, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kay Messenger. She is survived by one brother JD Messenger, three sons, William (Janie) Chadwell, Robert Redden and Benjamin James (Laurie) Redden and five daughters JaNell Knowles, Marcia Cook, Barbara Reffitt, Sandra Redden and Patricia (Mark) David. 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:15am until 11:00am on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am in the Herman H. Lohmeyer Chapel with Pastor Mark Rounsaville officiating. Burial will then follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Pregnancy Care Center.
