Linda Wood

Linda Kay Wood was born July 14, 1959 in Springfield, Missouri. She died at 1:50 a.m. April 16, 2009. Linda suffered for many years from a horrible disease- COPD with emphysema. She wanted everybody to see the horrible results of this disease which is caused mostly by smoking. One of the things she said while still awake was "TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND LOVE TO STOP SMOKING NOW! Linda loved life more than anybody we know and that's probably the only reason that she lived 5 years longer than was predicted. Linda loved animals very much. In particular cats and horses. She took in several strays over the years and gave them good homes. She had five horses and the week before she was admitted to the hospital she called one of her sisters and said "Guess what I did? I just rode one of my horses". The sister replied " You saddled one of those horses up yourself and rode it?" She replied "Yes I sure did, it was hard to get the saddle on the horse because I was really weak but I was determined to do it." She said she rode it into the woods for a long time. It had been a few years since she had ridden any of her horses. Linda has had horses since she was 2 years old. Her horses' names were Heeney and Honney. She had another horse at the time we thought was named Tony. Linda loved these horses so much she kept them in our house. She kept them corraled in different locations in the house. The only thing was nobody else in the house saw the horses. Therefore we always stepped on them which would anger Linda. She would always ask us to set the table with a plate for Heeney and Honney. So we put out one plate and years later she asked when we set the table why we only put out one plate. She thought it was really mean to put out one plate for two horses. We told her we didn't know there were two horses we thought you were saying Heeney-Honney as in one horse. Then she replied "Don't you remember about Tony? You never set a plate for him either. We told her we forgot all about Tony. By the way who is Tony? She said he was their trainer. Linda is survived by three sisters- Charlotte (Turner) McDaniel, Beverly (Turner) Cummins, Twila (Turner) Cornelison and one brother Russell Turner and their spouses and children. She is also survived by three children and three grandchildren. Leigh Posner and her sons- Andrew and Adam, Jasson Wood, and Stephanie and her son- Monte. She is preceded in death by her father Joe Wood, grandparents Steve and Lila Wood, and Rose (Lee) Nichols. Due to her health she was not able to complete her teaching degree at MSU of which she had only one year left. Due to Linda's personality she never met anyone who didn't almost immediately take a liking to her. She will be missed dearly by her loved ones and her friends. Services were held at Watts Cemetary in Rogersville on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with Russell Turner officiating. Arrangements were made by Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
