Keith was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa, on July 15, 1934, and passed away at age 77, on January 28, 2012, of a lung disease.
He attended school at Mechanicsville, Iowa, and graduated in 1950. Keith served in the U.S. Navy for three years from 1950 to 1953 then was married to Kay Joanne Butterfield on November 9, 1957.
Keith was active in Boy Scouts, bowling leagues, softball teams, golf, and drove a school bus for several years. He was employed by Rockwell International (formerly Collins Radio) for 25 years and retired in 1980, following by-pass surgery during which he had a stroke. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri, in September of 1982, and became members of Wesley United Methodist Church in 1983.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Melvina Hatcher, his oldest brother Rodney, and his youngest sister Diane Hanna. Keith is survived by his wife and his four children, Steven and wife Kathy, Sara, Julie and Patti, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the fourth of eleven children, seven of whom survive including: Rodney’s wife Florence, brothers, Robert and wife Doris, Jerry and wife Jo, Jon and wife Cecelia, and sisters, Sally Hurt, Katy and husband Bud Henkel, Joanne and husband Robert Jenneman, and Ruth Hatcher.
Funeral services will be at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday February 1, 2012 in Wesley United Methodist Church under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the start of the service Wednesday in the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
