Karen Elaine Harter passed away June 30, 2021, after a short illness. Karen was born April 14, 1964, to Ed and Helen Harter of Bois D’ Arc. She graduated as salutatorian from Ash Grove High School and with honors from Missouri State University in accounting. She worked as an accountant for hospitals in Joplin and Aurora, and as an auditor for USDA in Kansas City. After retiring, she worked part time as a tax accountant. Her interests included astronomy, genealogy, and classical guitar. She helped rescue and place numerous pets.
She is survived by her mother, Helen Harter; siblings Edward and Joan Harter of Springfield, Diane Hill of Sarcoxie, Tom and Lori Harter of Joplin, Mike and Mary Harter, Dennis and Sandy Harter, and John Harter, all of Bois D’ Arc; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Due to local COVID restrictions, services will be planned at a later date. She will be interred at St. Mary’s cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Humane Society directly or in care of Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
