Juanita Faye King was born November 27, 1953 in Madill, Oklahoma and was the 10th child of 14 children to Alphonso and Angie Lee (Wilson) King. A confessed Tom Boy, Faye (as she was called) spent her youth and received her education in Madill. After being crowned the first African American Choir Queen in Madill, OK, she graduated the school in 1973.
A marriage to Larry B. Giles, Sr. produced 3 boys. Faye worked as a nurse’s aide, as an officer for the Dept. of Correction and a security guard for Tulsa University. She also furthered her education in computer technology with an associate’s degree from Murray State University in Oklahoma.
At 48, she came home with her confessed chosen sister, Brenna Cox Issa, to Springfield, MO, where she spent her final years watching her favorite shows and shopping with her daughter-in-law, JoVonna Giles. She loved knitting, laughing and watching her grandkids grow.
She leaves behind 4 children, Derrick DeVonne King, Larry B. Giles Jr., Siddrick London Giles Sr., and JoVonna Vanessa Giles, all of Springfield; 6 grandkids, Siddrick L. Giles Jr., Siddney Faye Giles, Dionna Westbrook, Christian Giles, Siddrionna Samone Giles and Trey Alexander Giles; 7 brothers; 3 sisters; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday January 9, 2015 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut, with Pastor Lori Lampert officiating. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday January 8, 2014 in the funeral home.
