J.R. was born to Emette and Mrytle Hampton in Shannon County, Missouri.
He attended Winona Missouri Schools and moved to Colorado in his late teens. J.R. married Darlene A. Scott on December 24, 1964. J.R. retired from Zenith Color T.V. after 22 and a half years and also worked at Consumers Grocery chain store for 5 years.

He loved to fish, hunt, and go for drives. He enjoyed western movies, especially John Wayne, and church mission trips to Arizona and Old Mexico. He had a strong faith in God and loved his family dearly.

J.R. was preceded in death by his brother, Mureal Dwain Hampton; and his parents, Myrtle and Emette Hampton.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years and 6 months, Darlene; his sister, Vivian (Lee); 2 children, Timothy and Teresa; 2 grandchildren, Timothy II and Amber; 8 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kaleb, Kadence, Trinity, Izabela, Kail, Madison, Hayden; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Opal and Elaina; along with all of their partners and children.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Landmark Church, 200 S. Peach Tree Lane in Strafford, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri.
