Mr. Joseph Francis O'Reilly 82, of Houston Texas, formerly of Springfield, Lebanon and Joplin, Mo. passed away at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 in his daughter's home in Houston, Texas. Joseph Francis O'Reilly was born December 24, 1922 to parents Charles F. and Anna Klara Pauline (Scheiper) O'Reilly in Ferdinand, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings, Michael Byrne O'Reilly, Sister Mary Antonio O'Reilly, and Mary Louise (O'Reilly) Arnold. He was widowed from Jeanne (Johnson) O'Reilly in January 1981 after being married for 33 years.
He is survived by six of his nine siblings, Charles H. O'Reilly, Clara Marie Koch, John F. O'Reilly, Mary Ann Schlesinger, Catherine Anderson, all of Springfield, Mo.; Anthony P. O'Reilly, of Lebanon, MO; five children, Julia O'Reilly of Eugene, Ore.; Joseph F. O'Reilly, Jr., of Kansas City; Kathleen O'Reilly Smith and Kelly O'Reilly, both of Houston, Texas, Maureen Blum, of Jackson Hole, Wyo. and five grandchildren Aaron Blum, Cody Blum, Sean O'Reilly, Michael O'Reilly, and Shea Smith.
A Corporal in the Army Air Corps, he served in Italy during WWII. He was also a Captain (flying search and rescue) with the Civil Air Patrol in Lebanon, MO. He was a long-time member of St. Peter's Parish in Joplin, Mo. where he served as an usher for many years and was active in the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2005 in St. Agnes Cathedral with Father Mike McDevitt celebrant. Burial will follow with military honors in Resurrection Cemetery in Springfield under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut.
Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Friday with Prayer Services starting at 7:30 p.m. all in the funeral home.
