John Stewart

John Stewart

John McIntyre Stewart passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, after battling various complications of bladder cancer and kidney disease. He was born on January 11, 1931, in Glasgow, Scotland, to John and Jessie (Carroll) Stewart.

John did his military service in the British Army and served in Germany and Korea from 1950-52. He earned degrees at the University of Nottingham in England and at the London School of Oriental and African Studies. John was a mounted policeman for the British South Africa Police in what is now Zimbabwe from 1955-62. There he met his wife of forty years, Lois, whom he married on August 15, 1964.

He embarked on a teaching career and later earned a Masters in Education from the University of Rochester in 1966. He taught in Africa, Europe, and in Missouri for over 30 years. He taught history and economics at Kickapoo High School for 18 years and A. P. European and World History at Glendale High School for nine years. He retired in 2000.

John was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, John McIntyre and Alice (Jamieson) Stewart; his mother, Jessie (Carroll) Stewart Buck; his father, John Stewart; his uncle, Charles Stewart; and his mother-in-law, Eunice (Davis) Dodge.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois (Dodge) Stewart; his daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Steve Eisenhart; his daughter, Alison Stewart; his granddaughter, Isabella Eisenhart; his sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and John Hills; his father-in-law, Ralph E. Dodge; his aunt, Mamie (Carroll) Carney; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to thank St. John's Hospice for their care and support, and in lieu of flowers, requests that contributions be made to St. John's Hospice Care, 1378 E. Republic Rd., Springfield, MO 65804.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut St.
