John Charles Howard, 65, Springfield, MO, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at home. He was born January 7, 1956, in Springfield, the son of Charles & Paula (Baron) Howard.
He attended school at St. Agnes, Willard and Missouri State University. He worked many places throughout his life, but law enforcement was the career he stayed with until retirement. He remained active as a volunteer for 18 years with the Springfield Police Department. He also volunteered at Mercy Hospital, Red Cross, St. Agnes, St. Joseph, Victory Mission and The Kitchen.
John was an avid fan of the Springfield Cardinals and Missouri State Bears. He was an excellent marksman and enjoyed being a part of the Mustang Club. He will be deeply missed by those who knew his kind and gentle nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Paula Howard, and his brother Joseph.
He is survived by his wife, Renee (Salzman), his sons, Ryan, David and Kenneth; two grandchildren, Lillianna and King; five sisters, Becky Schonert, Marcia Howard, Tery Wyland and husband Gary, Susan Howard, Mary Rowley and husband Shawn; his brother, Paul Howard and wife Valerie; and his sisters in law, and brother-in-law; Larry Lane and his wife Jeanne, Dana Howard and Nanette Burnett. John has many nieces and nephews and numerous family members and friends.
Memorial visitation will be Monday, September 27, 2021, from 6-7 p.m. at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield with a prayer service and rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021, 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Springfield with Rev. Daniel Belken officiating. Burial will be at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Rescue One in Springfield, MO.
